Structural Steelwork Ce Marking

Do you design or manufacture structural steelwork with CE Marking? According to the Construction Products Directive (CPD), steel materials are seen as a safety critical product. Because of this, it is now a legal requirement for organisations to follow the BS EN 1090 standard. This ensures that the installation process is conducted safely and in a secure manner.

BS EN 1090

At ISO Certification Limited, we work with the BS EN 1090 CE Marking standard. This consists of three main parts:

EN 1090-1: CE Marking

This provides details of BS EN 1090 for assessing and verifying whether your product or service conforms to the legal requirements of this standard.

EN 1090-2

This part gives details regarding the technicalities in the manufacture and assembly of steel structures.

EN 1090-3

The EN 1090-3 provides details of the manufacturing procedure and assembly of aluminum structures.

Whether you design or manufacturer steel products, all businesses must comply to this standard in order for their products to be sold in Europe.

CE Marking

In order to certify for BS EN 1090, you will need to be CE marked. CE Marking is a manufacturer’s declaration, showing that their product has met the EU standards for health, safety and environmental protection.

In order to achieve this, a third-party assessment and certification is required from a notified body. This person will need to carry out the following:

  • An initial inspection of your manufacturing plant
  • An initial inspection of your FPC
  • And continued surveillance, assessment and approval of your FPC, typically including an annual audit to ensure a continued competence is declared to the Execution Class.

After the third-party has received an FPC and Welding Certificate, you are required to understand the following in order to gain your CE Marking certification:

  • The initial type-testing of your products
  • The factory production control regarding the implementation of FPC system procedures, welding quality management procedures and the appointment of a responsible welding coordinator
  • And further testing of samples taken at the factory in accordance with the prescribed test plan
